Description Vintage hand painted ceramic Australian pottery vase. Maker marked to base: Essexware, Australia. Produced by Gordon & Irene Dunstan in Leura, Blue Mountains, NSW from 1945 – 1976. Known for its distinctive Indigenous inspired themes. These little pottery pieces were popular as souveniers with tourists as well as collectors. In the 1950’s and 1960’s Essexware Pottery received commissions from government agencies and private companies. They produced a set of dinnerware for the Prime Minister of Australia in 1960. The couple retired in 1976 and pottery production ceased. Vase measures 9.5cm x 8cm.
