Description Model of M/T Fujikawa Maru, launched 29th July, 1957. Built in Uraga, Japan by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha. The foundation of the ‘K’ line model presented to dignitaries and officials. Tanker Fleet Line. The boat model measures approximately 18.5cm in length x 2cm in height. Sadly the lid of the box has been lost to time. The vessel was an oil tanker that was launched 6th June from Uraga Dockyard which was part of the former Imperial Japanese Navy Base. She was part of the effort to develop Japan’s oil tanker fleet in the late 1950’s. This model is not to be confused with another earlier more well known vessel of the same name. The earlier vessel was a refrigerated cargo ship built by Mitsibishi in 1938 and sunk during Operation Hailstone in February 1944. This vessel is now a highly regarded dive wreck in Truk Lagoon, Federated States of Micronesia.
